I don’t want my kids learnin’ evolution! Where should I go?

By mr.kyle

Illinois, Mississippi, or South Carolina?

The answer, surprising as it is can be found on this map which reviews the status of evolution in science classrooms across the country.

If you have the time, feel free to scroll through the comments under the map.  This is frighteningly typical of the anti-evolution crowd:

Dear Sir,

If you believe that the world was created by chance, you mine as well admit your amonkey right now. Further more your are admitting that anything can become of just chance. I think that evolution was invented just so you evolutionists don’t have to accept God as the creator and upholder of the universe. I am not surprised but I do think that if you want to call yourselves monkeys thats ok with me cause you sure aren’t human, you have to be awful messed up in the brain to give in to believing that stuff. If you don’t want this comment on your blog then just delete it but I had to get something said to defend my God, because he is getting his glory robbed from him.

The MaskedMaster

Really, the comment trails on these sorts of posts are the best demonstration of where we’re at in this debate.  There are people on either side who can essentially do no more than call the other side idiots, which obviously isn’t constructive.  Inevitably someone will throw up a few chestnuts, if I came from apes, why are there still apes, etc. and someone else will point out the fallacy in these arguments.  But in the end it seems highly unlikely that anyone will have reconsidered their position in the slightest.  This is not to say that the sides are remotely equivalent, but simply to point out that when someone has chosen to rely on their faith for both comfort and explanation,  they are unwilling and unable to consider evidence that seems to contradict it.  How can you argue with someone like Masked Master?

I guess if there weren’t so many school boards that shared his misinformation we wouldn’t have to.

Is anyone else shocked that South Carolina has embraced evolution but still has the rebel flag at the capitol?
