I have a knack for becoming obsessed with things and abusing them until the thought of them becomes painful. Macaroni and Cheese to Sudoku, you name it, I’ve OD’d on it. This week it’s Regina Spektor.
Her single, Fidelity, can be listened to (and viewed) here. It may or may not do much for you, depending on where you are. If you happen to read this while working on a construction site or pumping iron, you’re unlikely to begin a relationship with Regina that will require rehab later. But if you’re somewhere safe from heavy machinery and sweaty guys, you might dig the sharp song construction, or deconstruction, the incredible voice and the nuanced vocal acrobatics, and you might get a couple of her albums and then start listening to them non-stop for several days, pausing only to eat and criticize construction workers for their closed minded attitudes towards music. You might struggle with comparisons like Ani Difranco, Fiona Apple, Bjork, or Tori Amos, which are all in the neighborhood, but not quite right. You might beat your head against the wall for missing her show the other night. You might wonder how long it’s going to take you to burn out this beautiful voice.
It could be a while.

Haha, you’re right about all of the above. She breaks my heart. If you’ve only just started listening to her, then I suggest her earlier albums a listen too, they are as amazing, if not more, as “Begin to Hope”
